Aicon3D DPA
Photogrammetry :
DPA (Digital Photogrammetric
Analysis) is a highly accurate, handheld, portable CMM that uses
the latest digital camera technology as a data collection
device. DPA is applied both for 3D inspection of parts &
assemblies and for 3D process analysis e.g. for deformation of
sheet metal and plastic parts in various environmental
conditions.
How Does DPA Work ?
The Aicon3D DPA system consist of a
high-resolution digital camera with a series of standard
accessories - a reference cross, high precison scale bars, and
reflective targets.
Targets are placed on the object to be measured
at the required inspection points - adapters / tools are
available to locate hole centres, edges, etc. The targeted
object is photographed from a series of different positions and
angles, and the images are downloaded onto a standard PC with
the Aicon3D software installed. These images are processed using
spatial triangulation techniques to locate the 3D position of
each of the target points. The inclusion of reference crosses
and high precision scale bars introduces a high degree of
accuracy into the measurement.

At the heart of the system is the DPA software,
which automatically processes the image data irrespective of
what camera is used. The software can be adapted to a variety of
applications, or data can be easily exported for processing in
3rd party software such as Metrolog XG.
DPA Options
DPA is available in a variety of modules,
enabling the user to determine the accuracy and capability of
the system according to application needs. A range of cameras is
available from low end systems providing an accuracy of only 1mm
for simple applications right through to high resolution cameras
providing 15 micron accuracy.
Software modules include DEFORM for instant
comparison of measurement data sets to test for deformation of
objects under various environmental conditions.
Applications :
The DPA portable CMM can be used
for many different applications, such as ;
 |
3D Inspection and Dimensional Quality Control |
 |
Deformation Testing |
 |
Jig and Fixture Inspection
/ Calibration |
 |
Large Volume Metrology |
 |
Roundness Measurement on
Large Structures e.g. Tunnels, Pressure Tanks,
Submarines, etc. |
 |
Car Safety / Crash Testing |
The DPA system can measure parts
of any size, even as large as a full aircraft. The use of a
handheld camera means the system is particularly useful on large
objects that cannot be moved to a CMM and need measuring in
situ. In addition, the DPA system does not require a stable
foundation for positioning of the measuring system, and as it is
extremely mobile it is ideal where space is limited.
