REVO 5-axis measurement system

Multi-sensor 5-axis measurement system

The REVO system uses 5-axis measurement technology to minimize CMM motion at ultra-high measurement speeds.

The REVO-2 head achieves fast and accurate measurements with its flexible tip-sensing probe by letting the head to the work while the CMM moves in a much slower, linear fashion. This probe, coupled with a tailored CMM, gives the system added accuracy and performance. The removable probe system, used in conjunction with a low-cost changer, gives the system added flexibility.

Speed, accuracy, flexibility

As a new installation or an accredited upgrade, the REVO 5-axis measurement system offers:

  • Surface finish measurement and dimensional inspection.
  • 15% to 50% cycle time savings.
  • Maximised throughput, minimised capital investment.

High-speed measurement

  • Up to 500 mm/sec resulting in increased part throughput
  • Data collection rates up to 4,000 points per second
  • Infinite positioning and 5-axis motion reduces non-productive transitions between features
  • Rapid calibration with all positions inferred means more time measuring

High system accuracy

  • 5-axis scanning minimises CMM motion and the associated dynamic errors
  • Stylus wear minimised by extremely low scanning forces
  • Infinite positioning and five-axis motion aid access to difficult features
  • Tip-sensing further adds to the systems’ accuracy and flexibility

Great flexibility

  • Maximum reach up to 800 mm from centre of head rotation
  • Multi-sensor probe and stylus changing capability
  • Renishaw UCCserver software application (based on I++ DME command protocol) provides the interface for REVO-2 control
  • The removable probe system, used in conjunction with a low cost changer, provides added system flexibility

REVO multi-sensor system

RSP2

RSP2 is a dedicated lightweight tip-sensing probe for use on REVO systems, capable of 2D-scanning (x, y) and 3D-touch trigger measurement.

RSP3

The RSP3 range complements the RSP2 probe, providing the REVO system with 3D-scanning (x,y,z) and crank stylus capabilities. It is used for 3-axis scanning, such as with a fixed REVO head angle during measurement.

SFP2

Makes surface finish inspection an integral part of the CMM measurement procedure, automatically switching between scanning and surface finish capability.

RSP3-6

The RSP3-6 provides enhanced capability for accessing deep bores and inspecting features within large parts. It is available with a range of stylus holders for applications requiring straight and cranked extensions and can be used for both touch-trigger and 2D scanning applications.

REVO-2 RVP

The REVO-2 RVP probe adds non-contact inspection to the existing touch-trigger, high-speed tactile scanning and surface finish measurement capability of the REVO system allowing full inspection of parts and features unsuitable for tactile measurement.

RFP1

The RFP1 probe adds non-contact structured light inspection capability to the REVO multi-sensor system. RFP1 provides high-density data at a high capture rate, perfect for inspection of freeform surfaces and complex geometry.

RUP1

The RUP1 ultrasonic probe enables single-sided measurement of part thicknesses, enhancing the capability to measure features previously not accessible by tactile systems.

Controller system

Renishaw’s UCC S5 CMM controller is built on their 5-axis technology, 3 machine axes plus the 2 rotary axes of the head. Motion commands, synchronisation and 5-axis metrology are all handled by the UCC S5.

To achieve the incredibly high scanning speeds, the 5-axis measurement system uses a fully integrated control loop built into Renishaw’s UCC S5 and SPA3 system.

REVO-2 changing rack

The REVO system change rack is designed to allow automatic probe and stylus holder changing on a CMM. The primary purpose of the system is to improve flexibility with the ability to use and store longer styli and large star stylus configurations.

For optimum metrology, REVO probes and stylus holders should be changed automatically using REVO change ports (RCP TC-2, RCP TC-3 and RCP2) and a flexible change rack (FCR25). These ports are mounted on the modular rack system (MRS2).

Faster calibration

Calibration, a part of the process that traditionally requires a significant amount of time to complete.  The REVO-2 uses a table mounted sphere to determine the head and probe geometry allowing measurement in any position from a single operation.

The total operation takes around 20 minutes, significantly reducing down-time and increasing time the system is working.

For a single or limited number of parts this may save up to 10 minutes, for multiple parts this saving could be up to two hours.

As the calibration process is repeated, the time saving are accumulated to give you greater measurement throughput.
