Part of the MetraSCAN 3D line-up, the robot-mounted MetraSCAN 3D -R optical CMM 3D scanning system is fast and accurate, designed for 3D automated inspection of parts on the production line and on the shop floor.

In combination with industrial robots, the MetraSCAN 3D-R increases the reliability, speed and versatility of on-line inspection and quality control processes gaining all of the benefits of the hand-held MetraSCAN 3D in a fully automated, operator free measuring solution.

In addition to the robot-mounted MetraSCAN 3D-R, we also offer an Automation Kit for the MetraSCAN, this is an ideal solution for enhancing productivity and adapting to evolving quality control challenges while maintaining the full flexibility of handheld 3D Scanning devices. The Automation Kit includes a Fanuc collaborative robot with related hardware, a robot base and a flexible fixture table, a truly accessible solution for non-experts in robotics and metrology.

Featuring 45 Blue laser lines achieving 1,800,000 measurements per second allows high speed, automated inspection and quality control of hundreds of parts per day, directly on the production line, where speed matters.


Equipped with Blue laser technology, high quality scans are captured on all surface types, including shiny materials, without the need for surface preparation spray, the solution can be fully configured and programmed, just like a traditional CMM, to meet inspection and automation requirements for parts of all shapes and sizes.

Accuracy & Resolution

Based on VDI/VDE 2634 part 3 standard in a ISO 17025 accredited laboratory the improved 0.025mm resolution means the MetraSCAN 3D-R offers metrology-grade accuracy, repeatability, and resolution, for surfaces, trim edge, and feature extraction measurements.

Dynamic Referencing

The coordinate system can quite literally be locked onto the objects being measured, thereby eliminating the effects of moving the part, vibrations, etc.

Automatic Alignment & Self-Calibration

The automatic alignment function removes the need for manual, operator dependent alignment, drastically reducing the root cause of most measuring errors.

The MetraSCAN 3D-R has a fast calibration process using a certified reference gauge ensures constant accuracy during the MetraSCAN 3D-R entire life cycle.

Independent & Continuous Monitoring

The accuracy of the system is completely independent of the robot being used, such that you don’t need to invest in high-end robot cells to achieve an accurate measuring solution.

Continuous monitoring is implemented as the fully automatic controller constantly monitors the measuring environment (temperature, accuracy, etc.) to ensure the validity of the results, even in harsh measuring environments.


The MetraSCAN 3D-R is available as part of the Black Elite Creaform Scanner family.

Incorporating 69 Blue laser scanning lines for high speed acquisition of scan data within a measuring volume of up to 16.6 m3. The MetraSCAN-R can achieve a volumetric accuracy of 0.078 mm, while still acquring data at high speed (up to 3,000,000 measurements/second). The system is unaffected by surface finish, and can handle anything including highly reflective and polished surfaces without surface preparation.

No other robot mounted scanning device can match the MetraSCAN 3D-R for combined speed, accuracy and the ability to scan any surface.

The software perfectly synchronises the robot movements with the measurement results of the system, automatically adjusting scanner location according to the object location.

The robot trajectory is controlled 100% by the Metrologic X4 i-Robot software, so that inspection personnel need no prior knowledge of programming robot systems. The software effectively transforms the robot into a traditional CMM solution.
