Introduction

Track position, orientation and movement over time

Part of Creaform Metrology Suite, Dynamic Tracking enables engineers to measure the position and orientation of multiple objects simultaneously as they move.

Working with Creaform’s optical tracking hardware and reflectors, the software provides measurement data for analysing displacement, monitoring deformation and guiding assembly processes. Applications include automotive testing, aerospace assembly and robot calibration.

Previously known as VXtrack, Dynamic Tracking helps teams understand how components behave during testing, manufacturing and operation.

Key features

Position and orientation measurement

Measure movement in six degrees of freedom, capturing both the position and orientation of a rigid group of reflectors. This allows engineers to assess how a component moves and rotates during a process or test.

Simultaneous tracking of multiple objects

Track several objects within the measurement volume at the same time. Compare their relative movements and positional relationships to understand how components interact during operation or assembly.

Integration with other applications

An application programming interface (API) enables Dynamic Tracking to exchange data with third-party applications, supporting integration into specialist testing, manufacturing and research workflows.

Automotive and Motorsport

Understand component movement during testing

Measure how components move relative to one another during operation or controlled testing. Dynamic Tracking helps engineers assess displacement and deformation, providing data to compare component behaviour with design expectations.

Automotive applications include monitoring movement in engines, exhaust systems and wheels, assessing chassis or seat deformation, and studying door and bonnet closing behaviour.

For motorsport teams, MSL can help assess whether optical tracking suits the test setup, measurement range and component movements involved.

Aerospace

Monitor assembly alignment and deformation

Track the relative position and orientation of components during complex aerospace assembly operations. Dynamic Tracking provides measurement data to help engineers monitor alignment as parts are positioned and brought together.

During testing, it can also monitor deformation in components such as wings, landing gear and tyres, helping teams assess how their geometry changes under load.

Assembly and Robotics

Monitor assembly positions and support robot calibration

Track the position and orientation of components as they are brought together during assembly. Simultaneous measurements help engineers assess relative alignment and monitor positional changes throughout the process.

Dynamic Tracking also supports robot calibration, performance assessment and guidance. Its measurement data can be used within an integrated system to identify positioning errors and support corrections.

Dynamic Tracking FAQs

How is Dynamic Tracking different from 3D scanning?

3D scanning captures surface geometry. Dynamic Tracking follows reflector positions over time and uses groups of reflectors to determine an object’s position and orientation, helping engineers analyse movement, rotation and deformation.

What equipment is needed?

The software works with compatible Creaform optical tracking hardware and reflectors attached to the objects being measured. MSL can advise on the configuration suited to your application and measurement volume.

Can several components be tracked simultaneously?

Yes. Multiple objects can be tracked within the measurement volume, allowing engineers to compare their relative movements and positional relationships.

Can it be used during product testing?

Yes. Dynamic Tracking can monitor displacement and deformation during testing. Suitability depends on the movement speed, required accuracy, reflector visibility and test environment.

Was Dynamic Tracking previously called VXtrack?

Yes. Dynamic Tracking is the current name for the application previously known as VXtrack and is part of Creaform Metrology Suite.
