Creaform Unveils Advanced Scan-to-CAD Software Module

Creaform, a leader in 3D measurement solutions, has launched its latest Scan-to-CAD software module, designed to enhance reverse engineering and product development workflows. This new addition to the Creaform Metrology Suite offers a streamlined process for converting 3D scan data into precise CAD models.

Key Features:

  • Mesh Optimisation & 3D Printing: Users can efficiently edit and align 3D scan meshes, preparing them for 3D printing or other applications. Tools include mesh cleaning, hole filling, merging, decimation, and creating watertight meshes.
  • Entity Extraction: The software enables the generation of NURBS surfaces and extraction of geometric entities such as curves and cross-sections, facilitating seamless integration into CAD designs.
  • 2D Sketching & 3D Modelling: Designers can create 2D sketches from scan data and build accurate parametric solid models, enhancing the efficiency of the design process.
  • Seamless CAD Integration: The module allows direct transfer of data to major CAD software platforms, including SOLIDWORKS, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, and Solid Edge, ensuring a smooth transition from scan to model.

Workflow Steps:

  1. Mesh Editing: Prepare the 3D scan mesh by cleaning, filling holes, merging, decimating, and ensuring it is watertight.
  2. Alignment: Align the 3D scan to the coordinate system using entity-based or best-fit alignment methods.
  3. Entity Extraction: Generate NURBS surfaces and extract necessary geometric entities from the mesh.
  4. 2D Sketching: Create foundational 2D sketches from the scan data for parametric modelling.
  5. 3D Modeling: Develop accurate parametric solid models using tools like extrude, revolve, and cut.
  6. Transfer to CAD: Export the processed data to preferred CAD software in standard formats such as .iges, .step, or .dxf.

This comprehensive approach ensures that designers and engineers can efficiently transform 3D scan data into usable CAD models, reducing time-to-market and enhancing product development capabilities.
