Plymouth Science Park has invested in next-generation engineering design software

The procurement of Measurement Solutions’s nTop software will add to the Park’s digital design and manufacturing capabilities, and allow users to easily develop topological designs that can be exploited with additive manufacturing.

The Park has committed to a three-year licence of nTop, as part of its ongoing ambition to offer the latest industry technologies to companies in the South West and beyond.

The nTop software supports the design of organic extrusions and inclusions within existing CAD (Computer Aided Design), as well as from-scratch designs. It
hosts a unique toolset of generative design, topology optimisation, and automation capabilities, as well as an unbreakable geometry engine.

The addition of the software is part of a £507,000 funding package from the Heart of the South West LEP, to support a new digital engineering test facility, DREAM.

Set to be installed by spring 2024, DREAM will offer a facility for reverse engineering, design, manufacturing and validation of additive manufactured prototypes and products.

Jacques Wood, Senior Digital Applications Engineer at Plymouth Science Park, said: “We are excited to build upon the possibilities of manufacturable design here at the Park, with the addition of the nTop software. This will expand our offer to manufacturing and engineering companies, giving them access to state-of-the-art technology, and support the future of product development.”

Measurement Solutions, a trusted UK provider of calibre metrology systems and services, has helped Plymouth Science Park to benchmark the nTop software. Working alongside Measurement Solutions will help the Park to expand on-site resources, with case-specific equipment and industry knowledge available to support users.

Joe Winston, nTop Account Manager at Measurement Solutions said: “It’s great to see forward thinking companies adopting software like nTop to leverage their AM hardware. I’m really looking forward to seeing PSP pushing AM design to the next level in the months and years to come”.
